About This Watch

Vintage. No box or papers.

A timeless classic IWC fitted with the coveted Calibre 89 movement which was supplied to the British military grade Mark 11 RAF pilot watch. This is a very good movement, robust, high-precision, finely polished with bevelled edges and featured a sweep center seconds. The dial on this watch is in mint condition and case appears to be unpolished with sharp edges and factory brushed lines. The movement shines as new while all hallmarks and stamped numbers show crisply. The acrylic crystal appears to be an original and shows stressed marks that some collectors favour. We can replace this free of charge but left it intact as some would enjoy the authenticity. The solid 18ct gold case does not bear the factory stamping marks but has the gold hallmarks and serial numbers which points out that this was a non-Swiss market and likely an export watch. The case is very well made with circular grain on the inner cover and matches the factory quality and style of the period.

The movement was overhauled a few months ago costing about S$500, takes 15 winds to full power reserve and keeps time within 10secs+/- a day.

The IWC Calibre 89 was developed in 1946 when the company was picking up the pieces after their factory was bombed out during the War. The British War Ministry needed a new watch for their pilots with a sweep center seconds, IWC promptly responded and the rest is history. This movement was developed by Albert Pellaton, it is robust and well finished against others of it's time. Hence, many Calibre 89 IWC watches are still highly sought after by collectors today and the factory has the parts to restore it for you when necessary.

Don't miss this beauty as it would be difficult to find another replacement of this quality again at this price.
