About This Watch

Pre-owned. No box or papers and a Passions box will be given.

This is the original Royal Oak I designed by Gérald Genta. Launched in the 1972 Basel Fair after two years of development, the movement by JLC was the thinnest automatic with a date in the world and the large 39mm sports watch in steel retailed at 3,750 Swiss Francs was the most expensive steel watch of it's time.

We will spare the story telling and you may read them here & here. Only 876pcs of this halfgold were produced numbering from 1 to 951 so you are looking at only few hundred pieces in existence. In contrast, over 4000 in steel were made and 736 in yellow gold.

The steel version is now worth anything from US$100,000 to over US$1million as sold by Phillips recently. The Royal Oak 5402 is without doubt one of the most important model by this Swiss watchmaker & an icon in the world of horology.

Don't miss the opportunity to purchase a beautiful and very rare Royal Oak for a very reasonable price. An online seller is asking S$270K for one now but our price is much friendlier and bears a nice serial number. Watch has been polished and keeps time. This is a true vintage of over forty years old & unlike modern production pieces, this is a true collector's items that has aged gracefully and stories to tell. Glass, dial & hands perfect except for patina on the lume. Click here for more images of this actual watch.
