About This Watch
Vintage. Comes with orig period long box and nothing else.
According to the movement numbers, this watch was made in 1946, right after WW2. This Longines rectangular tank watch represents the epitome of luxury and style meant for the American market. The Allies won the war, United States of America was catapulted to become the world's superpower and the country was celebrating for it. So it began the golden age of economic growth through the next few decades and this watch was the symbol of success and celebration.
The case of this Longines was cast out of the noblest Palladium alloy which is very rarely used on watch cases and it is 3 times more expensive than 14ct white gold. Palladium is a component of Platinum and doesn't tarnish nor corrode.
It is notable that this watch is free from inscriptions on the back which is unusual as many such watches were often engraved on the back for memory so this will be appealing to those collectors who demand a 'clean' watch.
The watch came with it's period correct box lined with red velvet in very good condition and it is fitted with a thin, brick style bracelet in 14ct white gold that is soft and wraps around any wrists. The case was possibly lightly polished over the decades and shows micro hairlines but is free from any dents while the profile remains in tip top condition with brushed sides, polished chamfered edges and the back cover shuts tightly. The rectangular form shaped movement is mint as new and the dial shows natural ageing with a charming patina. The watch with it's bracelet weighs 55grams and appears to be a very well cherished timepiece over the past seven decades. It takes about 18 winds to full power reserve and keeps time very well.
This Longines would've been a top-of-the-line model and proudly offered by any boutiques of the day.
Prior to the quartz disruption age, Longines was one of the most prominent watch makers having founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz. The firm produced a wide variety of watches from ladies to pocket watches, supplying to the Olympics, military and very high quality chronographs that command in excess of Euro 50,000 today that are sought after by collectors.
Passions is honoured to offer this exceptional watch to you and there is simply nothing else like this on the global market.
