This is the VC watch many didn't know it exists. This Vacheron Constantin is the elusive Ref.2215 Royal Chronometer, launched in 1975 and produced for only two years in limited nos, making it very rare. This model was launched between the years when her rivals, Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak in 1972 while Patek Philippe launched the Nautilus in 1976 and after these, VC launched the 222 which has caught the attention of collectors now but that was a small watch at 34mm while our watch here measures 36.5 x 43mm and has a screw-lock back.

There is little literature for the Ref.2215 as it was not a commercial success and very few were produced but today, VC is enjoying a recognition by collectors and is finally receiving her well deserved celebrity status.

The Royal Chronometer was introduced as early as 1907 and started out as pocket watches that were fitted with the most accurate movements produced by the manufacture and all fitted in solid gold cases but this 2215 was the first to be made in steel and has an integrated bracelet. It appears that two dial colours were offered in brushed silver or black while some had diamond indices which is what we are offering here.

Each watch bears an extra set of individual number engraved on it's back cover on top of the serial numbers and so far examples that have shown up over the years only bear 3 digits. Our watch is presented in near mint condition with chiselled good looks with sharp edges to the case, tight bracelet & a perfect dial. The only sign of age is the browned gasket for the glass. The completely brushed silver look including the dial offers a sophisticated and almost zen-like finish of calmness unlike the bling of today's fashion. This is an everlasting classic that endears the ever-changing landscape of watch design.

This watch received a complete overhaul on the movement in July 2019 so it is well lubricated and timed. Images shown here included the ancestor in the form of a pocket watch in 18ct gold with white enamel dial. A factory archive cert will be applied as complimentary.
