About This Watch

Vintage. Comes with orig. box set without cert. This is another gem that we have recently acquired from a single family ownership. This watch was purchased by the vendor's grandfather in Singapore who gifted it to his wife back in 1960. It was a very generous present as this boys size watch was actually meant for gents in the post War years and the watch, a luxury brand would've costed a couple of month's salary for the regular citizen but this watch has accompanied the grandmother for half a century. Our vendor inherited this watch recently and decided to cash it out now to fund his education.

The papers are understandably lost but the original and very precious vintage Rolex box+outer box that accompanies it will be sold together. This box alone is worth over US$400 on Ebay & it is period correct for the very valuable sports models including the pre-Daytonas.

We immediately set upon a restoration job on it. The watch was stripped, case carefully polished and a new acrylic crystal replaced. The movement was overhauled, lubricated then adjusted as set out by Rolex protocols and look at the quality of this movement now. It shines as if it was assembled yesterday and the balance wheel spins with much vigour. The beauty of this watch is the gorgeous and original dial which would be in black when manufactured but aged to a very fine chocolate hue over the last half a century which is better known as "Tropical" dial now. The rolled gold 40 microns case has some wear on the edge at 9 o'clock side which is common and it is generally very well kept throughout. The steel back cover has been brushed and there are some old marks still visible but not a bother while the teeth engages with the Rolex opening tool well.

Add this to your collection or it'll be a great gift to someone special and continue your story with it. We will gladly deduct S$500/Rm1500 from the selling price if you refuse this box but it is part of the history of this Rolex Oysterdate.
