About This Watch

Pre-owned. No boxes or papers & please read below for details. This watch received a complete overhaul in Oct 2012 by IWC service centre with an invoice for S$1160 & given a two years warranty. It was further serviced again with a receipt dated Dec 2014 where all gaskets were replaced & everything else checked so this watch has had a good service record with the official service centre which is valuable.

This is a rare 1st edition Big Pilot with a slow-beat movement (18000vph) so visually, the "ticking" of the sweep seconds is amplified across the oversized dial with just 5 beats a second whereas the current version with a high-beat movement (21600vph) has a smoother "ticking" showing 6 beats a second. This watch is fitted with the current production crown with the Probus Scafusia words. Finally, the dial on the 5002 has a purer military look with a digit 9 while the 5004 did without that & simplified it to give a more modern look.

Any watch enthusiast will appreciate this watch far more than the current series as whether it beats at 18000 or 21600 has little difference to us but visually, this 5002 offers a more authentic appearance to the original pilot watch of 1940s.

This is a one family's watch as the current owner inherited it from his uncle but accessories were not given but the watch was well taken care of by IWC and has relevant documents to support it. The pictures show the actual watch & accessories that comes with it. The black PVC service pouch has disintegrated except for the pillow & outer box. The original dark brown leather strap is used and in relatively good condition. It'll will serve you but you may want to purchase a spare & you can always opt for after-market for more varities of leather.

The watch shows mild wear with the usual handling scratches & tiny little dings on the edge of the polished bezel but these can only be picked up with a magnifying glass and nothing major can be seen with naked eyes. The lugs are thick and case has excellent profile which means it was never dropped or had any major impacts. A good polish will easily restore the case to new condition again but we're leaving it as it is now since it's being marketed at a fantastic deal so grab this while it last.
