In 1996, to celebrate the 50th acension of Bhumibol Adulyadej, King Rama IX of Thailand. Cartier was approached to produce a limited edition of 50 watches to celebrate this joyous occasion. This is the original prototype presented to the royal court. An 18KYG model from the American Tank Private Collection was selected and a specially commissioned dial bearing the Coat of Arms of the Royal Thai family was printed on it. However, as the Royal Crown is considered sacred and above all, it cannot be printed under the Cartier logo on the dial. This design was rejected and an alteration was made.

The production pieces were made with the Coat of Arms on top with Cartier below & cased in platinum with 50pcs produced. This prototype was then given to the then project manager by Cartier and a spare original dial is provided in this sale.

This watch has never been polished and presents in original condition with minimal surface wear & no major dents. A light polish & a new strap will restore it's glory. This is an unprecedented opportunity for you to acquire one of the most coveted watch with an intriguing history from Cartier.

The Amrican Tank was introduced in 1919 and was inspired by the military Tank used in WWI. The two long polished bezel are to represent the moving tracks of the war machine.
