About This Watch

Vintage. No box/papers & a carrying pouch is given.

This is by far one of the best condition pocket watch that we've acquired for it's age that's dated to late 19th century. This Tiffany & Co New York Open face pocket watch in an Empire style case is supplied with a Patek Philippe movement and is well over a century old. The watch was cased by the Swiss factory with matching serial nos & stamped Tiffany & Co on the inner cover. The movement is jewelled to the center & features an oversized regulator. This calibre can be found on some signed by the Swiss maker.

The solid 18ct pink gold case has triple hinged covers with coin-edge case band. The back cover has decorative guilloché pine-cone pattern with an oval panel that bears initials of FCS. The enamel dial in milk colour is in perfect condition with fine markings and a large sunken small seconds counter. It is fitted with a pair of highly decorative Louis XV hands in gold and hand made. All movable parts are tight and shows little to no signs of wear and tear. This watch presents almost new even though it's more than a century old now.

Founded in New York City in 1837 by Charles Tiffany as a "stationery and fancy goods emporium", Tiffany & Co. (initially Tiffany, Young & Ellis) began selling watches in 1847. Patek, Czapek & Cie was founded in 1839 with a name change to Patek Philippe and Cie by 1851.

That same year, Antoine Norbert de Patek (one of the two founders) made a trip to America to promote their Swiss watches and met Charles Tiffany in New York.

In 1854, Tiffany & Co entered an agreement with Patek Philppe and became the first retailer to sell their watches in America. By 1874, to meet increasing demand, Tiffany & Co built a watch factory in Place Cornavin, Geneva. They brought sophisticated machinery like steam power plant, mass production and technical expertise, producing many complications and won medals and awards across Europe and America. But they soon realised that they did not need to focus on producing watches and clocks then sold the factory along with the equipment and staffs transfer to Patek Philippe in 1878 with a five years exclusive contract that the latter would continue to produce watches exclusively for them. Hence, many watches during this transition period bore single or double names on the movements and dials. Some were produced by the Patek Phlippe factory and signed Tiffany & Co for the retailer like this watch here but as it bears no signatures with Patek so we have priced it accordingly.

A heavy watch weighing 94 grams and rich history not to be missed.

It takes about 14-15 winds on the crown to full power reserve.
