Launched in 1991, this Audemars Piguet "Star wheel" was one of the most innovative watch & well ahead of it's time although such concept of telling time were first presented 1655AD.

Subsequent watches by Urwerk and Gozilla with wandering time are based on the same concept. Here's an excellent article by Hodinkee with a visit to the Urwerk HQ in Geneva and the clocks that influenced the design of this satellite system which dates back to 17th century.

The Star Wheel was sold in limited numbers and has now received much deserved attention and is very sought after by collectors. Our watch appears to be in original, unpolished condition and the original strap remains in very good shape while the yellow gold case and buckle have taken on a patina which is very appealing. The front and back sapphire glasses are perfect and the value is further enhanced by the factory issued archive certificate bearing the serial numbers of this watch.

This Audemars Piguet 25720BA Star Wheel is powered by the self-winding calibre 2224, based on a Jaeger LeCoultre ébauche, having been modified to integrate the wandering hours function. It features 33 working jewels, has been adjusted to five positions, and also integrates an oscillating weight mounted on an unlubricated ceramic ball bearing, with one segment of the weight made out of 21-carat gold. Here's an example sold by Phillips in 2019 for CHF35000 and today, the same example of what we have here are selling for over S$80,000 overseas.
